What's in a name? A lot more than you might think!

Within the Internet Domain Name System there are two types of Top-Level Domains (TLDs), generic and country code. The generic Top-Level Domains (gTLDs) are .com, .net, .org etc.
The country code Top-Level Domains (ccTLDs) are two letter domains, such as .in, .us, .uk etc, that represent the respective country, territory, or other geographic location.

All Generic (gTLDs) and many Country Code (ccTLDs) Domain names are available for anyone to register and can be used for any purpose. However each TLD name are meant for something. Following explanation will help you to choose the right domain name for you or your business.

1. Register gTLDs:

 
.COM - ".com" stands for "commercial". Dot COM domain is a king of the domain name space. It was originally intended for commercial businesses. However currently it is the first choice for all Internet users around the world.

.NET - ".net" stands for "network". It was initially intended for and is still commonly used by Internet service providers (ISPs). If you provide any kind of network services, then .net domain name is the right choice for you.

.ORG - ".org" stands for "organization". Intended to serve the noncommercial community. If you run a non-profit, non-government organization (NGO), then .org name is the perfect choice for you.

.INFO - ".info" stands for "information". Appropriate for websites containing information about your organization, your products or any other information you'd like to make available to a global audience.

.BIZ - ".biz" stands for "business". It is meant for "bona fide business or commercial use". However, no checking is performed to validate this requirement. A good choice for any business website.

2. Register .IN ccTLDs:
 

The 'IN' is a 2-letter country code for India. The '.in' TLD is separated into sub categories, called Second Level Domains (SLD's). You can register the domain name within TLD or within the appropriate SLD as outlined below.

.IN - 'IN' stands for India. It is the first choice for all commercial or noncommercial Internet users.

.CO.IN - ".co" stands for "commercial". It is commonly used by commercial businesses.

.NET.IN - ".net" stands for "network". It is generally used by an Internet service providers (ISPs).
